3. Determinant's of antibiotic use

4. Developing antimicrobial stewardship committee and guidelines

5. Recognize the problem of antibiotic resistant

6. Recommend infections antibiotic therapy for refractory gram positive and gram negative infections

7. Interventions to improve antibiotic use

8. STRATEGIES FOR ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP

9. Developing the local antibiogram and its uses

10. Differentiate between process and outcome measures for an ASP

Outcomes:

1. Understand what is the antimicrobial stewardship and why is it important.

2. Define the principles of appropriate empiric antimicrobial prescribing

3. Consider patient and epidemiologic factors when prescribing antimicrobials

4. Understand strategies of developing stewardship committee and guidelines

5. Utilize clinical and laboratory data in the stewardship

6. Understand basic concepts of pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of antimicrobials

7. Describe oral bioavailability of antimicrobials

8. Illustrate the concept of time-dependent antimicrobials

9. Describe optimizing the use of beta-lactam antimicrobials using prolonged infusion.

10. Understand mechanisms by which microorganisms

develop antimicrobial resistance

11. Illustrate the emergence and global spread of drug

resistant organisms

12. Demonstrate the use of clinical guidelines in choosing appropriate empiric antimicrobial therapy
